Summer Wine

Design number: 48 Year: 1984

Richard and Mary Fleck’s Summer Wine was one of three boats designed as a joint project with Ed Dubois as a prelude to a design partnership that was ultimately aborted, despite the fact that Humphreys and Dubois remain good friends.

As a design Summer Wine resisted the trend to go minimalistic in internal volume, and in grand prix terms suffered as a result. Philippe Briand’s One Ton Cup-winning Passion took Half Ton thinking into the One Ton arena, and in the sharp end of the IOR it was by now clear that one could not find a successful compromise between racing and cruising.

Our most up to date information about Summer Wine is that she is based in Bermuda.
