The first of the new, Humphreys-designed, Oyster 655s took to the water at the end of last month for her builder’s trials.

Her owner was reported to be delighted with her balance and performance in 10 to 14 knots of breeze, and the success of the new class appears guaranteed with nine orders already under contract and more sure to come when the boat makes its official debut at the London and Düsseldorf Boat Shows in January 2007.

The 655’s ‘G5’ – fifth generation – styling is very distinctive, giving her a sleek, contemporary look, and she is indeed a fast yacht, with a generous sail area providing plenty of power, while kevlar and carbon have been used in the construction to keep her weight down and further enhance her performance. Twin wheels and an ergonomic cockpit further add to her air of potency.

The Oyster 655 sleeps eight in four spacious, en-suite cabins, and the expansive, airy deck saloon provides ample space for relaxation below decks.
