Looking back: Kingfisher IMOCA 60 Vendee Globe

With the start of the Vendée Globe last weekend, we look back to Kingfisher— one of the most iconic IMOCA 60 yachts to compete. Skippered by Ellen MacArthur, Kingfisher claimed a fantastic 2nd place in the 2000-2001 Vendée Globe and won the Route du Rhum the following year, inspiring a generation of sailors and pushing the boundaries of solo offshore racing.

 

Now, the 2024 Vendée Globe is underway, promising another thrilling, non-stop, solo circumnavigation of the globe. This year’s race features cutting-edge technology, battle ready sailors, and a renewed focus on sustainability.
