Final Preparations for the Challenge Fleet

The twelve-strong fleet of Humphreys designed Challenge yachts are undergoing final preparations for the start of the 2004 / 05 Global Challenge Race. The Fleet will depart from the UK on 3 October 2004 and head south to Buenos Aires in Argentina, which is their first port of call. From here the yachts head to Wellington in New Zealand, rounding the notorious Cape Horn and entering into the Southern Ocean.
The next leg is a short sprint to Sydney before the fleet head back into the Southern Ocean to do battle with the wind and waves as they head to Cape Town in South Africa.
From Cape Town the yachts sail to Boston which will be their longest leg before heading across the Atlantic to La Rochelle and then to the finish in Portsmouth. After a 29,000-mile journey, the whole fleet is expected to arrive back in the UK on 17 th July 2005.
