Humphreys Yacht Design has been a key player for Oyster since 1997 when the company took over as lead designer/naval architect. The hull lines, appendages and rigs of all Oysters in the 46—82 foot range have been designed by Rob Humphreys and his team, using the latest CAD software. The marque is recognised throughout the sailing world for its distinctive and pioneering deck saloon design, encompassing an area of well-lit, well-ventilated space that has made Oyster the market leader in the production sailing yacht world.

The Oyster fleet is all about blue-water sailing, with a number of successful circumnavigations completed. Humphreys has brought a fast and easy passage-making capability to the range, and whether it is at the 46ft end of the spectrum or the 82ft end, owners are uninhibited in their cruising aspirations. The boats are designed to cope with the full range of weather conditions that ocean sailing can offer, with specially reinforced hulls and an extra strong join between bulwark and deck to provide additional solidity. Although production yachts, they come with numerous semi-custom possibilities to reflect the individual preferences of each owner: for example joinery materials, interior configuration, fixtures and fittings.

Oyster yachts enjoy a 35-year heritage and an international reputation for build quality, performance and interior comfort. By maximising the space:length ratio and using thoroughly assessed materials throughout production, their popularity has stood the test of time. More than 1200 yachts have been built under Oyster marque and with each generation the harmony between naval architecture, construction and owner’s aspirations becomes more apparent.

The racing background of the Humphreys team of designers has resulted in a series of authoritative sailing yachts combining performance, speed and stability. Much performance experience from the racecourse feeds into the Oyster DNA, and indeed many Oysters themselves have enjoyed significant racing successes. Oystercatcher XXV won the Rolex Superyacht race around the Isle of Wight in 2005, while the Oyster development yacht Oystercatcher XXVI designed by Tom Humphreys came first in the Heineken Regatta in St Maarten in 2008 and in Class Zero in Cork Week in 2008.
