Many years of designing sailing yachts of all sizes enables the design team at HYD to draw on unrivalled experience when it comes to creating large custom sailing yachts. The studio portfolio includes award winning luxury cruising yachts such as the 39-metre cruising ketch Cyrano de Bergerac (winner of the 1994 Superyacht Awards ‘The Most Innovative Sailing Yacht’) and the Phoenix 77 (winner of the 1997 British Nautical Awards ‘Yacht of the Year’ trophy). Other large sailing yacht designs include the Oyster 72 and Oyster 82 classes for the leading UK builder of production and semi-custom luxury yachts, Oyster Marine, as well as a number of large racing yachts, including Sir Chay Blyth’s Global Challenge Fleet, and designs for the Whitbread, Volvo and Vendee Globe round-the-world races.

This dual experience – wholesome cruising and leading edge racing – makes HYD one of the leading exponents of the design of fast cruising yachts, with the ability both to draw efficient hulls and easily-handled sail plans, and at the same time maximising the use of the interior space to create spacious, comfortable accommodation containing all the amenities that the owner desires. As always the approach to such projects is to establish a dialogue with a prospective client to ensure that the team fully understands his requirements and aspirations, and then to remain engaged with him throughout the design process to ensure that the yacht fully meets his expectations in terms of style, performance and amenities.
