Yachtsmen and women looking for exciting one design racing off one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Eastern Mediterranean will welcome an exciting new initiative from Slovenia’s Burin Yacht Club.

Burin YC is purchasing a fleet of ten Elan 340s, identical in all respects and specially modified for regatta charter. The latest in the Elan range of sailing boats, the Elan 340 was designed by the UK’s Humphreys Yacht Design and following its introduction last summer is currently a nominee in the European Yacht of the Year awards.

The fleet will be introduced to the world at a Premium Media Regatta, to be held at Izola, Slovenia at the start of March 2007. The event will be open to representatives from the leading sailing journals from across Europe (enquiries to info@burin-club.com). Thereafter the fleet will be based at Biograd na Moru (which translates as ‘white town on the sea’) on the coast of neighbouring Croatia and will offer fleet racing in both open and closed regattas, as well as being available for national events such as the National Cup Regatta.

It is also intended that in high summer the fleet will be converted to cruising mode and made available for individual charters in the Adriatic.

The Elan 340s are expected to handle their dual role with ease. Racing sailors at all levels will find them easy to get used to but still exhilarating to race, while on cruising charters the 340 is easily handled by family crews who will appreciate the spacious cockpit and comfortable accommodation. Burin YC is an experienced operator of charter fleets, having been active in this area both in the Mediterranean and beyond since the 1990s.
