Elan 37

The Elan sailboat range, designed by Humphreys Yacht Design, may hail from Slovenia and the sun-kissed shores of the Adriatic Sea, but they have an enthusiastic following all over the world, and the somewhat cooler Baltic Sea is no exception.

Norwegian Elan dealer and racing sailor Tor Hove is one such enthusiast, and he has been keeping us up to date with his recent exploits in his Elan 37 Elanor.

Earlier this month Tor competed in the Frydenbø Doublehanded race, taking a very credible second place, with a further two Elan 37s coming sixth and seventh respectively. This result helped reinforce Tor’s convincing lead in the Norwegian shorthanded rankings; 130 points clear of the runner-up.

In the Færder Race the following week Elanor took third place in an event dominated by light winds, beaten only by an X-35 and a Bashford 37 in a fleet of 50 boats filled with Xs, Firsts, Dehlers and, of course, a good showing of Elans.

Most recently, in the Watski Two Star held in mid-June, Tor found himself in a very close race with non-stop spinnaker peeling and trimming against a number of fully race-optimised X-boats, Js and Dehlers. Elans took second, third (Elanor) and fifth places; an excellent result given the professionalism of the fleet.

In the Baltic as elsewhere the Elans have once again proved themselves to be competitive and exciting race boats, while providing fast and comfortable cruising for those sailors that prefer something a little more relaxed.
