Dee Caffari celebrates finishing her circumnavigation

The Challenge 72 fleet was drawn by Rob Humphreys and his team originally for the 2000- 01 BT Global Challenge event with the specific remit that they should be exceptionally seaworthy and optimised for heavy upwind conditions.

“We’re incredibly proud that Dee has achieved her outstanding accomplishment in one of our designs,” commented Rob Humphreys. “What makes her success all the more remarkable is that we designed the Challenge 72 to be sailed by a full crew of eighteen, and yet she has successfully sailed it around the world single handed.”

Since their introduction six years ago the twelve yachts in the Challenge 72 fleet have sailed over 1.2 million miles and, as Dee Caffari in Aviva Challenge has demonstrated in spectacular fashion, the yachts continue to fully justify their reputation as the most successful round-the-world yachts ever designed.

“The Challenge 72 class has not only once again demonstrated its toughness and resilience, but also its versatility,” Rob continued, “ and by all accounts the boat and its equipment are in excellent shape after the challenges of the 28,000 mile voyage.”
