Oyster 72

The new Oyster 72, from the renowned UK boat builder and twice winner of the Queen’s Award for Industry of the same name, is widely acknowledged as one of the most striking yachts of 2005. Humphreys Yacht Design worked with Oyster’s own design team to create an ocean-going yacht that combines stunning good looks with excellent handling and performance characteristics. Oystercatcher XXV, the Oyster 72 built for Chairman Richard Matthews, scored a number of successes out on the race course, including the Rolex / RYS Race Around the Isle of Wight where she won the Performance Cruising Division as well as first place overall.

Also short-listed for the same category is the Impression 434 from Slovenia-based Elan Yachts. Here the Humphreys team set out to design a comfortable and spacious cruising boat capable of sleeping up to seven in comfort, yet easily handled by just two people. Ideal for family cruising, the interior is characterised by ample space and plenty of headroom, making it an ideal base for periods in port as well as a fast and comfortable passage maker at sea.

The IPC Media Awards will be announced on Friday 6th January at Old Billingsgate, London EC3
