The 128ft Cyrano de Bergerac won Showboat International’s Innovation Award in 1994. When other sailing superyachts of the time tended to promise more than they delivered, Cyrano worked well from day one as a very practical, manageable cruising yacht with well-conceived sail handling systems. With general design, naval architecture and engineering from the Humphreys office, the contemporary interior design work was by John Munford, and the construction by Camper and Nicholsons with Vosper Thorneycroft acting as C&N’s sub-contractor for the aluminium work.

Cyrano is ketch-rigged, with in-mast furling carbon spars by Nirvana, and the remote sail control system by Mike Urwin, now Technical Secretary of the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

Cyrano is a powerful and well-mannered yacht, somewhat in the motor-sailer tradition but with a turn of speed that surprises.
