Our new Oyster 118 design starts building

We are very pleased to announce that Oyster Yachts have signed the build contract for the first of the new Oyster 118 class. The Oyster 118 represents the Humphreys studio’s 17th (and largest) model for Oyster Yachts to date, in a range that now spans from 46-118ft. The Humphreys / Oyster partnership dates back to 1996, when Rob Humphreys first drew the lines for the Oyster 56 and 118 hull#1 will be the 358th Oyster to start construction from this longstanding partnership.

The Oyster 118 is a powerful, efficient passage-maker in the general genre of our most recent Oysters, with swift regatta potential detracting nothing from the blue water capability that is at the heart of every Oyster. Her clean, powerful lines are matched closely with her generous sail plan and optimised ballasting package, resulting in a stiff and seamanlike yacht that will be able to reel away the miles in safe and leisurely fashion. With the same twin-rudder configuration as we designed for the successful Oyster 885 and 825 models, the yacht’s control and directional stability is enhanced in inverse proportion to the appendage drag, giving us a virtuous circle in terms of lift against resistance.

Not only are Humphreys Yacht Design responsible for the naval architecture of the entire current Oyster range, but they are also heavily involved in the strategic and conceptual design stages, working closely with Oyster Chief Executive David Tydeman, as well as Technical Director Harvey Jones and key members of the Oyster in-house styling and design team.
